Licensing
Commercial use of music, whether in a concert, cafe, hotel nightclub or in any public place, in a live broadcast in an advertisement, in a film or in any public place, needs authorization from the respective property rights holders intellectual, represented by SCM.
Who are the graduates?
Radio broadcasters, live music promoters, digital platforms such as YouTube and Spotify, entertainment entities such as nightclubs and nightclubs, bars, cafes and restaurants, tourist accommodation such as resorts, hotels, hostels, etc.
Payment
Payment is due as it is an exclusive right, provided for by law. The amounts paid help musicians, every day, to make their career a profession, praising Cape Verde's music and its cultural and artistic sector.
The granting of a construction authorization license reflects 100% of the effort of the entire sector:
- of the authors to whom its creation is due. Creativity involves an entire effort of months or even years of work.
- of the artists who interpret and perform. It seems easy, but it takes work, dedication and time for the service to be of quality.
- the publishers who put the music on the market. Without their full-time work, the works would not have the same possibilities of scope and reach.
- from the recording producers: the music has to be recorded in a studio and mastered to have quality. The investment from the labels is significant.
License Types: One-off and Annual
SCM issues licenses for the use of music in shows and specific events. The rates applied are based on the surface (m²) on which the music is available and the production cost (light, stage and sound).
If there is no specific use of music for which a one-off license must be issued, SCM issues annual licenses.
The scope of these licenses, and respective fees, may be limited to a specific period of operation of a space.
Recipient of revenue
The amounts paid to SCM follow an entire internal process, duly audited, which includes correspondence with a computerized distribution system for musicians, authors and artists, as well as for publishers and phonogram producers.
